She blamed her action to kill her husband on the frequent domestic quarrels between her and her deceased husband.

She was further quoted to have informed the police investigating officers that physical abuse in their matrimonial home coupled with her unforgiving Spirit were blamed as responsible for her decision to take the laws into her own hands by killing her husband.

Further checks revealed that on the evening of the tragic event, the couple had yet been involved in another altercation, during which Aliyu allegedly assaulted Fatima before stumping out of the house.

Aliyu reportedly returned to their home and went to bed early, but without any premonition that trouble was lurking around Fatima was said to have seized the opportunity to act.

Confessing, “I used a head scarf to tie his neck, strangulated him apparently because he was in a deep sleep, he struggle with me, I struck couldn’thim three times with a pestle, twice on the head and once on his hand.”

Following the murder, Fatima wrapped her husband’s lifeless body in a mat, dragged it to a nearby bush, and returned to clean the crime scene.

It was further learned that initially, the suspect denied any knowledge of Aliyu’s whereabouts when his family posed some pertinent questions at him and began searching for him.

However, about three days after the tragic incident between the suspect and her deceased husband, she admitted to the crime.

Confirming the incident in a brief interview with Police Public Relations Officer, Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun said that the suspected housewife, Fatima had been arrested shortly after Aliyu’s body was discovered in the bush near their home.

Abiodun further disclosed that “Fatima acted alone in this crime,” stressing that, “She confessed to hitting her husband with a pestle on the head when he was fast asleep and tied him with clothes and a rope before disposing of the body in a bush.

The PPRO, however, assured that Fatima will remain in police custody as investigations continue.

He emphasised that, “this case highlights the dangers of unresolved domestic conflicts and the devastating consequences they can bring.”
