A suspect who allegedly killed a woman on Wednesday 22nd, returned to the scene hours later and shot four other people, killing a television news journalist and a 9-year-old girl.
According to Orange County Sheriff, John Mina, Spectrum News crew were in Pine Hills, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon, covering the murder of a woman in her 20s who had been found shot in the area.
The 19-year-old suspect, Keith Melvin Moses, returned to the scene and fired at the reporter and a photographer who were standing near a vehicle.
Moses didn’t stop there, he then went to a nearby home and shot a woman and her 9-year-old daughter. The girl died on the spot.
Shortly after the gruesome killing, he was arrested in the area and has been charged.
“The suspect is not saying much right now.
“It is unclear if he knew they were news media or not,” Mina said.
Stonix News learnt that there is no apparent connection between the suspect and the mother and child who were shot.
The woman killed earlier, according to the suspect, was an acquaintance.
“As for as we know, Moses had no connection to the reporters and no connection to the mother and the 9-year-old.
“We don’t know why he entered that home,” Mina told newsmen.
The child’s mother and the other journalist who was shot, as of the time of filing this report, were in critical condition.
Spectrum News, in a statement on Wednesday evening, described the violence as a tragedy.
The news outlet also confirmed that the photographer remained hospitalised:
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague and the other lives senselessly taken today.
“Our thoughts are with our employee’s family, friends and co-workers during this very difficult time.
“We remain hopeful that our other colleague who was injured makes a full recovery.”
The press secretary of White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, in a tweet, expressed her sadness:
“Our hearts go out to the family of the journalist killed today and the crew member injured in Orange County, Florida, as well as the whole Spectrum News team.”
