By RENOWNED Nigerian music icon, Innocent Idibia, famously known as 2Baba, has broken his silence on the real reasons behind the end of his 12-year marriage to Nollywood actress Annie Idibia, opening up with rare emotional candour during a recent podcast with media personality Nedu Wazobia.
In what many have described as his most honest revelation yet, 2Baba admitted that while Annie remains an “amazing woman,” their union had simply run its course.
“Annie and I had a good run. She’s amazing—she was the show in Young, Famous & African. But it just wasn’t working anymore. We were married for 12 years. She is okay,” he said, his tone reflective yet respectful.
The singer, known for his calm demeanour and soulful lyrics, revealed that the breakup wasn’t due to hatred or conflict, but the unfortunate evolution of personal differences and overwhelming expectations.
“I tried to make it work. But in trying to please everyone, I caused myself trouble. Times and circumstances change. Sometimes, some things outgrow each other.”
2Baba made it clear that despite the separation, there is no bad blood between them. He said he holds deep respect for all the women who have played significant roles in his life, especially the mother of his children.
While opening up about his emotional journey, 2Baba also took aim at the societal pressure on African men to bottle up their pain.
“In Africa, men are expected to be made of iron. You’re not allowed to feel pain, even when you’re breaking inside. But I’ve had to dust myself off and move on.”
Perhaps the most surprising moment came when the music legend confirmed that he has found love again — this time in the arms of Honourable Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly. He described her as an “amazing woman,” but stressed that he isn’t out to compare or dramatise.
“Annie is amazing. Natasha is also amazing. Everyone has their strength, their unique beauty. People are the ones creating unnecessary drama — not us.”
He added that the only people he feels he owes any explanation to are his children, describing them as his utmost priority in life.
“My kids are the only ones I owe anything to. I brought them into this world. They’re the only ones who matter in this equation.”
Back in January, 2Baba stunned fans when he took to Instagram to announce the end of his marriage to Annie, with whom he shares two children. While rumours and gossip swirled, both parties remained largely silent — until now.
With this heartfelt interview, 2Baba not only lays speculation to rest but also reminds the world that sometimes, love stories end—not in scandal—but in quiet respect, emotional maturity, and the courage to start anew.
