Suspected terrorists, on Monday evening, reportedly attacked an Abuja-Kaduna train conveying about 970 passengers and successfully immobilised it with scores trapped and some kidnapped.
Sources said the attack, with the aide of explosives, occurred at a point between Katari and Rijana.
One of the passengers, who confirmed the incident in a telephone call to media houses,, said the attackers had surrounded the train, shooting sporadically.
“All the passengers are currently lying on the floor of the train. The bandits are shooting sporadically. We are in serious danger,” one of the panic-stricken passengers retorted.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Engineer Fidet Okhiria, told has confirmed the incident.
He, however, said they heard of it at about 7:30p.m.
Meanwhile, the Lagos District Manager of the NRC, Engr Jerry Oche, has also confirmed the development.
Senator Shehu Sanni also confirmed the attack via his official Twitter handle:
“Villagers along Abuja-Kaduna road called to confirm hearing multiple gunshots and attack on the Abuja-Kaduna train by terrorists.
Meanwhile, troops from the Nigerian Army are said to have been drafted to the scene.
