Police arrest Apostolic pastor over kidnap of Catholic priest

Police operatives in Imo Command have arrested a pastor with the Apostolic Church of Christ (ACC) over the kidnap of a Catholic priest.

The suspect, Izuchukwu Anoloba, who’s 35 years old, was accused of having a hand in the kidnap of Fr Fidelis Ekemgba, in Imo State of Nigeria.

The 71-year-old priest of St. Peters Catholic Church Parish, in Amazu, Obowo Local Government Area, was kidnapped on November 17, 2021, at the entrance of his parish on his return from a mission assignment.

Stonix News reports that the anti-kidnapping unit of the command, reportedly, rescued the victim unhurt and items taken from him recovered last week.

Pastor Anoloba, whose church is located at Eziama Osuama, Isiala Mbano Local Government Areal of Imo State, was paraded at Imo State Police Command’s Headquarters, Owerri by the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Hussaini.

He said N5 million was paid as ransom to the kidnappers before the Catholic priest could be released from captivity.

The pastor, while confessing to the crime, confessed that he got N1.5 million as his share from the ransom.

While pleading for forgiveness, Anoloba described himself as a “disgrace to the body of Christ.”

“I am a pastor with Apostolic Church of Christ in Lagos. I got N1.5 million from the kidnap of the priest.

“I never knew I would be arrested. I regret my actions because I am now a disgrace to the Body of Christ and my family,” he lamented.
