MEMBERS of the Lions Clubs International have elected Dora Adebayo as the Second Vice District Governor during the organisation’s 19th Multiple District Convention held in Asaba.

The election, which took place at the Dome Event Centre on Saturday, formed part of activities lined up for the convention tagged “Asaba-Amaka 2026”.

Adebayo emerged victorious after polling 75 votes to defeat her opponent, Lion Olore Evelyn Imokhe, who secured 32 votes.

Election analysis released after the exercise showed that the total number of registered voters was 119, while 114 delegates were accredited to vote.

According to the result, a total of 115 votes were cast, with 107 valid votes and eight rejected votes recorded. Five delegates were absent.

Speaking after her victory, Adebayo expressed gratitude to members of the organisation for the confidence reposed in her leadership.

She also appreciated her supporters and campaign team for their commitment throughout the election process, describing their encouragement as a major source of strength.

According to her, the outcome of the election reflected the unity and shared vision among members of the organisation.

Adebayo pledged to serve with dedication and humility, stressing that her administration would focus on empowerment, unity and humanitarian service.

She said special attention would be given to supporting members and vulnerable people within communities through programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.

The newly elected official also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among members, noting that unity remained essential for the growth and success of the organisation.
“I remain committed to serving humanity and justifying the confidence placed in me by members,” she said.

Speaking after the exercise, the Chairman of the Nomination and Election Committee and Past District Governor of Lions Clubs International, Lion Patricia Udeme, described the election as peaceful, transparent and credible.

Udeme said members freely participated in the voting process and accepted the outcome in good faith.

According to her, although elections naturally produce winners and losers, the most important factor was that the process remained orderly and transparent.

She explained that the Lions Club leadership structure was designed to prepare members for leadership responsibilities through mentorship and continuous training.

Udeme noted that while all contestants were qualified leaders, delegates eventually elected the candidate they considered best suited for the position.

She disclosed that the successful candidate would officially assume office in July.

The election formed part of activities at the convention, where members also called for stronger unity, humanitarian action and collaboration in addressing social challenges across communities.

The convention, themed “Building Bridges of Service and Unity”, featured leadership sessions, humanitarian discussions, policy deliberations and community-focused initiatives, including childhood cancer support programmes.

The event attracted Lions and Leos from across Nigeria, alongside government officials, traditional rulers, corporate partners and other stakeholders.
