A pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Prince Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye has emerged as the new Soun-elect of Ogbomosoland, Oyo State, Nigeria.
Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Olusegun Olayiwola, made the disclosure in a statement on Saturday.
He said the announcement followed a long-drawn processes specified under the law culminating in the endorsement by Governor Seyi Makinde.
Olayiwola said “His Excellency congratulates the new Soun-elect on his ascension to the throne of his forebears.”
According to him, the exalted throne has placed the monarch-elect in the position to facilitate harmony, understanding and tolerance amongst his people.
He also urged all sons and daughters of the ancient city of Ogbomoso to work with the monarch to consolidate on the successes of his forefathers.
Stonix News reports that the last occupant of the stool, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi, Ajagungbade III, had joined his ancestors on December 12, 2021.
Oba Oyewunmi ascended the throne of his forebears on October 24, 1973 and ruled the ancient town for 48years.
Prince Olaoye, the Soun-elect, was pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Jesus House, Washington DC, USA.
He had, last year said when the immediate past Soun died, he knew it was the turn of his family to be king, but that he refused since he was now a child of God.
He said he had to call his spiritual father, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, to intimate him of the situation.
He said when he told Adeboye that he was not interested, the G.O. asked him not to say that, but to fast and pray about it.
Olaoye said he did not take the advice seriously as he did not pray about it.
He, however, said that he heard God told him on January 2, 2022, that becoming the Soun of Ogbomoso was his destiny.
“The next thing I heard, clearly, ‘You were born for this; this is the reason for your birth.’ That’s what I heard.
“Of course, that’s not what I was expecting. But, let me tell you this is what I heard, I am 10/10,” he noted.
