Mom Locks 2 Boys In The Room To Search For Food, Meets Them Burnt To Death

A mother, who locked her two boys inside the room to go search for food in Akure, has returned to meet them burnt to death.

The two siblings were identified as Jelad Oluwaranakinse, aged five, and his brother, Jenson, aged three.

They were burnt to death in al fire that engulfed their apartment in the Oluwatuyi area of Akure, Ondo State, a development that has thrown the entire neighbourhood in deep sorrows.

Witnesses said the children were locked inside their house by their mother, Mrs Deborah Oluwaranakinse, who had stepped out to buy food.

But while she was away, a fire engulfed the apartment burning it down with the two boys indoors.

It was gathered that when the fire started, the neighbours around made frantic efforts to put it out and rescue the kids, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The witness said that by the time the state fire service arrived at the scene, things had gone out of hand.

While the source of the fire is still unknown, sources said all attempts by neighbours to extinguish the huge flames, and save the children failed.

The remains of the children were later evacuated and deposited at the morgue of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Akure.

The Ondo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident, said investigations were underway to determine the cause of the fire.

“The two male children left in the room were choked and burnt. One is Jelad Oluwaranakinse, aged five, and the second is Jenson Oluwaranakinse, aged three,” the spokesperson added.

“Their mother, one Mrs Deborah Oluwaranakinse, locked the two children inside their room and went out to search for food. An investigation has commenced. “
