One Killed As Youths Clash In Delta

A youth has been reportedly killed in a bloody clash between two groups of youths in the Niger Cat area of Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, over extortion from a property owner.

Stonix News reports that youths in Delta, despite state legislation banning the act, usually go after land developers to extort money popularly known as ‘development levy’ or ‘deve’.

The death of the youth, whose identity is still in wraps, occurred when the youths clashed on Friday 13th November, 2023 at volatile Niger Cat area of Ekpan in the course of arguing over ‘deve.’

Stonix News gathered that the dispute was between the youths of Niger Cat area and youths from the main Ekpan community over who was entitled to the collection of the ‘deve’ from the property owner.

In the process, amid sketchy details, one of the youths paid the supreme price.

Contacted on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Delta State Police Headquarters, Asaba, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, but said he had no further details of what transpired.
