THE President of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has announced a landmark donation of N15 billion to Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Kano State, as part of a comprehensive five-year development plan for the institution.
Speaking at the University’s 5th convocation ceremony, where he was reappointed as Chancellor, Dangote unveiled an ambitious initiative aimed at transforming ADUSTECH into a hub for cutting-edge research and industry-relevant education.
“In the next five years, we will commit N15 billion to key infrastructure including additional student hostels, a world-class engineering laboratory, a multipurpose computer lab with 24-hour internet access, and a mini-solar plant to support power supply on campus,” Dangote stated.
He also announced plans to construct a new Senate building to house the University’s administration and pledged post-NYSC employment slots at the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Cement Plants for top graduates in engineering and related fields.
Acknowledging the financial strain on government in funding tertiary education, Dangote noted that through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the University’s electricity bills had been settled to ease financial pressures.
He added that his foundation had constructed two 500-bed hostels and facilitated access to steady electricity through a 33KVA connection, a 2.5 MVA transformer, and six step-down transformers.
Reflecting on the institution’s journey, Dangote commended its growth from 88 students to over 21,877, with 18,000 students graduating in the combined convocation.
He hailed the founding visionaries, describing the milestone as a testament to long-term commitment to education.
Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, praised Dangote’s continued support, describing him as a “visionary and illustrious African industrialist.”
Vice Chancellor Professor Musa Tukur Yakasa celebrated the achievements of the University, highlighting the accreditation of academic programmes and innovative research, including a digital model for measuring deforestation density developed by graduate Mahmoud Mubarak.
Honorary doctorate degrees were awarded to notable Nigerians including business magnate Chief Arthur Eze, Max Air founder Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, Senior Advocate Ahmad Adeniyi Raji, and oil tycoon Al-Mustapha Ado.
