Real Madrid have confirmed the return of José Mourinho after the Portuguese manager signed a three-year contract with the Spanish giants in a stunning managerial comeback.
The appointment marks Mourinho’s second spell at the Santiago Bernabéu, more than a decade after he last managed the club. The veteran coach is expected to begin work immediately as Madrid prepare for a new era following recent changes in the club’s technical setup.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, a period during which he won the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup.
His 2011-12 league-winning side famously amassed a record 100 points and scored 121 goals, ending Barcelona’s dominance under Pep Guardiola.
Although his first stint was filled with success, it was also marked by fierce rivalries and intense pressure, particularly during the heated battles with Guardiola’s Barcelona both domestically and in Europe. Mourinho eventually departed the club in 2013 before returning to the Premier League with Chelsea.
Since leaving Madrid, Mourinho has gone on to manage several major clubs, which included Tottenham Hotspur, Roma, Benfica and Manchester United.
His return to Real Madrid is already generating huge excitement among supporters, with many eager to see whether the experienced tactician can restore the club to European dominance once again.
Further details regarding Mourinho’s unveiling and backroom staff are expected to be announced in the coming days.
