(+VIDEO) Adelabu’s Sister, Twin Nephews Abducted by Armed Gunmen in Ibadan

IBADAN – Armed gunmen have kidnapped Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, the younger sister of former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, along with her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul.

The abduction took place at approximately 7:30am on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, while the 43-year-old mother was driving her children to school in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

In a statement issued by Chief Adelabu’s media aide, Comrade Femi Awogboro, the family confirmed that the victims were intercepted by armed men and forcibly taken from their vehicle.

“Mrs John-Paul was on her morning routine to drop off her sons when the attackers struck,” the statement read.

The family described the incident as deeply distressing, noting that Mrs John-Paul is the youngest of the five children of Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu.

Before her voluntary retirement last year, she had built a distinguished career, serving at the Central Bank of Nigeria and later at First Bank Pension Custodian.

Following her retirement, she relocated to Ibadan with her children whilst making arrangements to reunite with her husband, Mr John Paul, who had earlier moved to the United States.

The family said security agencies were alerted immediately after the incident and have since launched a full investigation.

“We are pleased to confirm that security operatives have swung into action and preliminary investigations have commenced in earnest. Efforts are currently ongoing to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this heinous crime,” the statement added.

Whilst expressing confidence in the security services, the family said Chief Adelabu and other relatives remain deeply troubled but hopeful that the victims will be rescued unharmed.

The family appealed to the public to remain calm and to avoid spreading unverified information that could undermine ongoing rescue efforts. They also urged anyone with useful information regarding the whereabouts of the victims to contact the appropriate security authorities immediately.

“We ask Nigerians to join us in prayers and support during this difficult period,” the statement concluded.

Further updates will be provided as developments unfold.
