A Nigerian woman, Habibat Salawudeen, has completed a 144-hour Bible reading marathon in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.
The six-day challenge, titled “144 Hours in the Word,” commenced on 22 June at the Novotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and concluded on 29 June after six consecutive days of public Bible reading.
Throughout the marathon, Salawudeen read the Holy Bible aloud while adhering to the guidelines set by Guinness World Records, which permit only limited rest breaks during record attempts. Her endurance, consistency and commitment enabled her to complete the challenge without bringing the attempt to an early end.
Following the successful completion of the marathon, her record attempt has been submitted to Guinness World Records for official review and verification. The organisation is expected to examine the evidence, including video recordings, witness statements and timekeeping documentation, before determining whether the attempt meets all required standards.
The feat has attracted widespread admiration across Nigeria, with many people commending Salawudeen for her unwavering faith, determination and resilience. Supporters took to social media to celebrate her accomplishment, describing the marathon as an inspiring demonstration of spiritual devotion and perseverance.
If officially certified, Salawudeen’s achievement would earn her a place in the Guinness World Records and mark a significant milestone for Nigeria in the global record book.
Guinness World Records requires all record attempts to undergo a detailed verification process before any new record is officially recognised.
