IWO — The wife of the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Kafayat Oyetola, has led thousands of women on a solidarity walk in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
The solidarity walk, held in Iwo, was organised as part of efforts to mobilise women across the state for the upcoming poll.
Monarch Proposes Ministry for Veil-Wearing Women
Receiving the group led by Oyetola in his palace, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi, appealed to the wife of the APC governorship candidate, Sekinat Oyebamiji, to champion the establishment of a dedicated ministry for hijab-wearing women if her husband emerges victorious.
The monarch said such a ministry would provide institutional support for veil-wearing women, particularly widows, elderly women and other vulnerable members of the group.
“I want you to champion the establishment of a dedicated ministry for veil-wearing women once your husband emerges as governor. Such an institution will give these women, especially widows, the elderly and other vulnerable members of the veil-wearing community, a stronger voice and provide a platform for their welfare, empowerment and inclusion in governance,” the Oluwo said.
Women Urged to Mobilise for Victory
Speaking during the event, Kafayat Oyetola said the solidarity walk was necessary to mobilise support for Oyebamiji and demonstrate solidarity with hijab-wearing women in Osun.
She urged the women to remain committed to the APC and work towards securing victory for the party at the August 15 poll.
Also speaking, Sekinat Oyebamiji expressed confidence that her husband would emerge victorious, saying the massive turnout for the solidarity walk was an indication of growing support for the APC candidate.
She urged the women to translate their support into votes for the party on election day.
Similarly, the wife of the APC deputy governorship candidate, Princess Abosede Adereti, expressed confidence in the party’s victory, urging residents to vote massively for the APC ticket.
APC Campaign Director Speaks
The Director of the APC Campaign Council in Osun West, Dotun Babayemi, stressed that the senatorial district stands with APC, adding that even the presence of the hijab sisters – who do not usually go out – gives the party a significant boost.
