Osogbo — The Imole Campaign Council has accused the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan, and the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Organisation, Hon. Wole Oke, of promoting a false narrative surrounding a purported assassination attempt, as video evidence has emerged that directly contradicts the police’s version of events.
The campaign council has also demanded the immediate release of the complete investigation records and called for an independent review of the case, insisting that the police command’s claims are a politically motivated smear against innocent citizens.
This comes after the Osun State Police Command paraded three suspects in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate Hon. Oke, who serves as the APC governorship campaign’s Director-General in the state.
Addressing journalists in Osogbo on Sunday, the Imole Campaign Council spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the police command’s public narrative does not align with the actual confession made by the suspects in custody.
“The Imole Campaign Council is compelled to address the public following the emergence of a video evidence that completely exposes the false narrative surrounding the purported assassination attempt on one Hon Wole Oke, the AMBO Campaign DG,” Olajengbesi stated.
He argued that the video raises fundamental questions about the integrity of the investigation conducted under Commissioner Gotan’s watch, adding that it contradicts the claims made during the parade of the suspects and reinforces the council’s long-held position that innocent leaders of the Accord Party were deliberately targeted for political reasons.
Olajengbesi further criticised the police for selective disclosure, accusing the command of withholding the suspects’ actual confessional statements from the public while claiming that influential individuals were mentioned in the alleged plot.
“The Police Command must also explain why it publicly claimed that influential individuals were mentioned in the alleged plot while withholding the actual confessional statements from Nigerians. This selective disclosure has seriously undermined public confidence in the neutrality and professionalism of the police,” he said.
He warned that if Commissioner Gotan fails to make the full investigation materials public, Nigerians would have no choice but to conclude that he had allowed himself to be used for a sinister political agenda.
“If the Commissioner of Police fails to make these materials public, Nigerians will be left with no choice than to conclude that the Osun State Police Commissioner has allowed himself to be used in a politically motivated attempt to smear innocent citizens and manipulate public opinion, with a view to achieving further sinister motive,” Olajengbesi added.
The campaign council has now called on the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and the Police Service Commission to intervene urgently, order an independent review of the entire investigation, and ensure that any officer found to have compromised the integrity of the Force is held accountable.
“The Imole Campaign Council remains committed to peaceful, issue-based politics and will continue to resist every attempt to weaponise state institutions against political opponents,” the spokesperson said.
Stonix News understands that the campaign council insists the truth is beginning to emerge through the video evidence of the suspect’s confessional statement, which it says was made available by spirited and conscientious Nigerians, and has vowed to resist any effort to suppress it.
Efforts to reach the Osun State Police Command for a response were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
