Brentford Honours Nigeria’s Sam Sodje With Induction Into Club’s League Of Legends (+PHOTOS)

FORMER Nigeria international footballer, Sam Sodje, has been inducted into the Brentford Football Club League of Legends in recognition of his outstanding service to the club, both during his playing career and after retirement.

The induction ceremony took place on 23 January 2026, with Brentford FC describing the honour as a celebration of Sodje’s lasting impact on the club. In a statement, the club noted that the former defender made over 100 appearances for Brentford, scoring 14 goals during his time at Griffin Park.

Beyond his on-field achievements, the club highlighted Sodje’s wider influence on Brentford’s growth and global appeal. His move from Brentford to Premier League side Reading, alongside his call-up to the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, was said to have significantly raised the club’s profile, particularly across Africa and in Nigeria.

Brentford FC further acknowledged that Sodje played a key role in making the club more attractive to players of African origin, helping to pave the way for the influx of African talents currently associated with the club, as well as boosting its popularity on the African continent.

In retirement, Sodje has continued to project the club’s positive values through his “Life After Sports” initiative, a platform dedicated to supporting and recognising retired sportsmen and women in Nigeria and across the world. The club expressed pride in his sustained relevance and leadership within and beyond football since hanging up his boots.

Brentford FC also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sodje, in line with its tradition of standing by former players as they pursue new ventures after their playing careers.

The club added that it looks forward to working closely with Sodje as he advances sports development in Nigeria, particularly in grassroots football and sports administration.
