A fire outbreak has destroyed several shops on Oki Street, off Esisi Road, in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The fire reportedly broke out shortly after 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, although the cause of the incident remains unknown.
At the time of the outbreak, no one was inside the affected buildings, as the area is mainly used for commercial storage.
Eyewitnesses confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.
However, the inferno caused extensive damage to property estimated to be worth millions of naira.
A furniture store alone reportedly lost goods valued at over N80 million, while about five provision stores, a restaurant, a nail parlour, a hairdressing salon, a tailoring shop and one vehicle were completely destroyed by the fire.
Residents disclosed that the fire service arrived at about 4:00 a.m., by which time the blaze had already intensified.
They noted that youths in the area made concerted efforts to contain the fire before the arrival of emergency responders.
It was also gathered that this was the third fire incident recorded in the area within the last five years, a development that has raised concerns among residents and business owners.
Further findings revealed that there was no electricity supply and no generator running at the time the fire started, leaving the cause of the outbreak unclear.
Affected residents have called on relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and to implement measures aimed at preventing future occurrences.
