Bauchi Governor Defects To Allied Peoples Movement

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

BAUCHIGovernor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), citing the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on the PDP leadership crisis as the primary catalyst for his departure.

The Governor made the announcement on Saturday evening, flanked by a large contingent of his supporters, shortly after an emergency meeting with political leaders in the state.

The gathering was convened to dissect the implications of the apex court’s verdict and chart a way forward amid growing internal turmoil.

Addressing the press after the closed-door session, Governor Mohammed revealed that he had spent the preceding eight days in Abuja engaged in intensive consultations with key stakeholders in a bid to resolve the party’s fractious internal disputes.

However, he admitted those efforts had ultimately proven fruitless.

According to the Governor, the Supreme Court’s judgment—which effectively nullified parallel conventions held by rival PDP factions—has fundamentally altered the political landscape.

The ruling stripped both warring factions of legal standing, leaving the party’s Board of Trustees to temporarily oversee affairs.

“The verdict has significantly altered the political surroundings,” Governor Mohammed said. “Recent events have added more uncertainty within the party. After careful consideration and wide consultations with leaders and stakeholders across the country, it has become clear that our efforts to restore stability have not yielded the desired results.”

The Governor went on to declare his immediate defection to the APM, urging his loyal supporters to rally behind the new platform.

He called on them to work tirelessly to ensure the APM emerges victorious in forthcoming elections in the state.

As of press time, the national leadership of the PDP had yet to release an official statement regarding the Governor’s departure.

Political analysts suggest the defection could trigger further realignments in the region ahead of the next electoral cycle.
