WARRI – Warri-based media consultant Ebule Anthony Metsese has said he remains unfazed by how people perceive his personality and professional practice.
Ebule, who is the Editor-in-Chief of Fresh Angle International, noted that readers’ and audiences’ opinions often change depending on the media content and subject matter at any given time.
The journalist of more than two decades, who spoke on the occasion of his 52nd birthday on Monday, June 1, said many readers struggle to draw a clear line between opinionation and interpretative journalism.
“There’s hardly any media company or media practitioner around the world that is not accused of bias at some point in time,” he stated.
“But as a professional mass communicator, I am guided by the ethical principles of fairness, justice, social responsibility and truth. These principles vary in application when reporting different issues.
“Issues of geographical location of the media, agenda-setting function and the need to de-escalate potentially explosive narratives also guide reportage.
“These principles don’t go down well with certain readers at different times, thus influencing their perception of media practitioners.
“I also tell people around me, especially those I mentor, that I don’t look for friendship. I just try to do whatever I consider right, both in my private life and professional practice. This is because I understand that only a fool is loved by everybody.
“I will continue to thank God for giving me sound health, a lovely nuclear and extended family, credible friends and associates, as well as clients who believe so much in my professional ability and integrity.”
