THE Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has narrated how gallant officers used modern crime detection technology to unravel the hideout of kidnappers who abducted a former minister’s sister and her twin sons in Ibadan last week Wednesday.
Mrs Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul, alongside her 12-year-old twin sons, Peter and Paul, was abducted on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the Elewura area of Ibadan while on their way to school at about 7.30am.
The victims were successfully rescued by the police following a late-night operation carried out at about 7.30pm on Saturday, June 6, 2026 – three days after they were seized by armed gunmen.
A thorough intelligence gathering and continuous tracking of the kidnappers played a critical role in the successful operation, a security source said.
According to sources within the Force, two suspected kidnappers were neutralised during a fierce gun duel with police operatives. Two firearms were also recovered from the criminal gang.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ayanlade Olayinka, explained that the kidnappers were successfully tracked down after gallant officers mounted sustained tactical pressure on the gang using modern policing methods.
An elated media aide to the former minister, Mr Femi Awogboro, confirmed the safe return of the kidnapped victims on Saturday night when speaking with newsmen.
A security source close to the Police Command disclosed that the operation led to a fierce gun battle between the kidnappers and police operatives, resulting in the death of two suspected members of the gang.
The source further revealed that two firearms were recovered from the suspects during the encounter.
“The victims were rescued alive during the operation. Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised in a gun duel with police operatives, while two firearms were recovered from the gang,” the source said.

Mrs John-Paul is the younger sister of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, a former Minister of Power.
Her abduction and that of her twin sons sparked widespread concern across Oyo State, attracting reactions from political leaders, residents and security stakeholders who called for urgent action to secure the victims’ release and tackle the growing menace of kidnapping.
According to the source, sustained intelligence-led efforts eventually forced the kidnappers into a confrontation with police operatives, paving the way for the safe rescue of the victims – all of whom were recovered unharmed.
Meanwhile, security operatives have continued combing nearby forests and communities in search of other members of the kidnapping syndicate believed to have escaped during the gun battle.
Some of the fleeing suspects are suspected to have sustained gunshot wounds while escaping from the scene, according to police sources.
