Developing: Delta Chief Judge Frees Kidnap Suspect In Warri Prison

Chief Justice of Delta State, Justice Theresa Diai, on Monday, set at liberty one 28-year-old Goodluck Sunday.
This is part of the CJ’s effort at decongesting prisons across the state.
She’s currently looking into 508 cases of awaiting trial at the NCS, Okere prison, Warri , beginning today and ending on Wednesday January 19.
Goodluck was charged with Conspiracy to Commit Kidnapping in court case FHC/116C/18 and admitted to the Nigeria Correction Centre on May 31, 2019 and has spent two years and seven months in prison.
In total he’s spent about five years in custody since he was arrested in 2017 and case has been adjourned 12 times at High Court 4, Warri.
Narrating his ordeal, the freed inmate said he was going to a site as a bricklayer on August 11, 2017 as usual when he suddenly saw people running helter-skelter.
Thinking it was a cultists’ clash, he also took to his heels and was consequently nabbed and accused of conspiracy to commit kidnapping.
“I was going for my bricklaying job when I saw people running and I joined.
“I was picked up and labelled a kidnapper. That’s how I found myself in the prison,” he disclosed, while thanking God for his freedom.
The assessment of the awaiting trial list by Justice Diai was still on as of the time of filing the report.
