NIGERIANS stranded in South Africa while awaiting evacuation flights have appealed for urgent help, saying they are currently facing hunger & homelessness.
This was disclosed by the president of the Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA), Rev. Frank Onyekwelu on Friday, who urged the Federal Government to speed up the evacuation process.
“Several have exhausted their limited resources after travelling long distances in good faith, believing arrangements had been adequately concluded for their departure. They are hungry & homeless,” he said.
The group expressed frustration over the postponement of the 2nd evacuation exercise planned by the Nigerian government, which has left many of them in difficult living conditions.
Those affected include women, children & elderly persons who reportedly depleted their savings while waiting for arrangements to be completed for their return to Nigeria
