ENUGU — The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ide Ikeje Asogwa, has clinched a resounding victory in the Enugu North Senatorial by-election, winning by a staggering margin after polling 162,360 votes out of the 184,094 accredited voters.
Electoral officials declared Asogwa the winner in the early hours of this morning at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, following a commanding performance across the entire senatorial district.
His nearest rival, Dr. Nestor Ezeme of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), trailed far behind with just 9,299 votes, finishing a distant second in what had been billed as a closely watched contest.
Reacting to the outcome, the Director of Media and Strategy Communication for the Ikeje Asogwa Campaign Organisation, Samson Ezea, said the result was a clear reflection of the grassroots support the senator-elect enjoys across the six local government areas comprising the Enugu North zone.
“The outcome reflects the overwhelming support enjoyed by Asogwa across the six local government areas that make up the Enugu North Senatorial Zone, cementing his mandate as the Senator-elect for the district,” Ezea stated.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat following the demise of the previous occupant, and Mr Asogwa’s triumph now cements the APC’s hold on the constituency.
