RIVERS State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has announced the immediate dissolution of the State Executive Council.
The decision was conveyed in a special government announcement signed by the newly appointed Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, who succeeds Nelson Chukwudi in the role.
Governor Fubara directed all commissioners and special advisers to hand over their duties with immediate effect to the permanent secretaries or the most senior civil servants in their respective ministries.
In his message, the governor expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the council for their service to the state.
“I extend my deepest appreciation to all members of the State Executive Council for their commitment and contributions over the past years. Their efforts have significantly shaped our development agenda, and I am confident they will continue to serve with distinction wherever they find themselves,” he said.
Although no official reason was provided for the dissolution, the development comes shortly after a reconciliation meeting between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was aimed at resolving the protracted political crisis that has affected the state for more than two years.
The directive for commissioners and special advisers to hand over to permanent secretaries is intended to ensure continuity in government operations pending the constitution of a new cabinet.
