NUPRC Warns Public As 15 Fake Profiles of Chief Executive Uncovered On Social Media

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

THE Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has issued an urgent public warning after uncovering at least 15 counterfeit social media profiles impersonating its Chief Executive, Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan.

In an official notice released on Thursday, the Commission said the fake accounts have been found across multiple platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and TikTok.

The matter has now been escalated to the relevant authorities for further action.

According to a press statement by Eniola Akinkuotu, head of corporate communications and media, Mrs Eyesan maintains only one official social media presence: a verified LinkedIn page.

“Those engaging in this impersonation to deceive and defraud members of the public are strongly advised to cease these activities immediately,” the statement read in part.

The NUPRC warned that any communication or interaction with these bogus accounts is entirely at the individual’s own risk.

It advised the public to refer to the Commission’s official website for any questions or verification regarding its operations.

The Commission did not disclose whether any members of the public had already fallen victim to the impostors, but reiterated that it takes the matter seriously and is working to have the fraudulent profiles taken down.
