ABUJA — Former Cross River State governor, Donald Duke, has emerged as the presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) for the 2027 general election, following a decisive victory in the party’s primary election held in the Nigerian capital.

Duke polled 6,499 votes to defeat his closest rival, Kingsley Yakubu, who garnered 2,699 votes.

Academic and policy expert Dr Nnaoke Ufere finished a distant third with 784 votes.

The party’s national chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, described the primary as peaceful and transparent, commending delegates for their orderly conduct.

He also urged any dissatisfied aspirants to channel their complaints through the party’s Appeal Committee, rather than resorting to external disputes.

Speaking after the results were announced, Duke thanked delegates and pledged to offer Nigerians a credible alternative in the next presidential election.

The PRP, one of Nigeria’s older political parties, hopes to build on its grassroots appeal as the country prepares for the 2027 electoral cycle.
