Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, Speaker Emeritus of the Delta State House of Assembly, has formally resigned his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect.
In a resignation letter dated 8 May 2026 and addressed to the Ward Chairman of APC in Onicha-Olona, Ochei stated that his decision came after “careful reflection and personal consideration”.

He offered no specific grievance, instead expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve and associate with the party over the years.
“I remain grateful for the opportunity given to me to serve and associate with the party over the years, as well as for the relationships and experiences gained during my membership,” the former Speaker wrote.
Ochei, a prominent figure in Delta politics, thanked the party’s leadership and members at all levels for their support, cooperation and goodwill.
His resignation letter, which surfaced on Thursday, makes no mention of any immediate political destination.

“I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.”
Political analysts in Asaba have described the move as a significant blow to the APC’s efforts to consolidate its influence in Delta State, given Ochei’s standing as a former presiding officer of the state legislature.
His departure follows a period of relative silence from the chieftain, who had been notably absent from recent party activities.
When contacted, a close associate of Ochei declined to comment further, saying only that the former Speaker would address the public in due course.
The APC ward leadership in Onicha-Olona is yet to issue an official response.
Ochei concluded his letter with a simple note of thanks, adding no acrimony or further explanation. “Please accept this letter as my official notice of resignation from the party. Thank you,” he wrote.
Stonix News reports that just about 24 hours ago, another prominent founder of APC in Delta State and former Deputy President of the Senate, OmoAgege, dumped the party, saying he refused to remain a lame duck.
