Cult Leader or Man of God? Nigerian Pastor Arrested for ‘Marrying’ 75 Female Church Members

AWADA, ONITSHA — Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest of a controversial clergyman, Pastor Harrison Charles, founder of the Day Spring Assembly in Awada, Onitsha, following shocking allegations that he lured 75 women into his congregation only to take them all as his wives.

According to the state Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr Law Mefor, the pastor was apprehended by operatives of the state security outfit, Agunechemba, and is currently being held in custody.

“The pastor is accused of deceiving 75 women under the guise of church membership and subsequently turning them into his wives,” Dr Mefor said.

But that is not all. Disturbing reports have also emerged on social media and a WhatsApp group, accusing Pastor Charles of engaging in wife swapping among his congregation, as well as taking other men’s wives for himself.

Dr Mefor confirmed that a full investigation is now underway to verify the litany of allegations. “If the allegations are verified, he will be charged to court for prosecution,” the commissioner warned.

He also appealed for calm, urging residents of the state, particularly members of Pastor Charles’s church, to maintain peace and allow the law to take its course.

The arrest marks the ninth time in just three weeks that Anambra State authorities have detained a pastor over questionable religious practices, signalling a growing crackdown on clerical misconduct in the region.
