ASABA — The Delta State Police Command has begun a sweeping enforcement operation targeting vehicles without registration number plates or those with obscured, defaced, or otherwise unreadable plates, in line with a direct order from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The statewide exercise, which commenced today, is designed to boost public safety and improve the ability of law enforcement to identify vehicles, prevent crime, and track down offenders. According to a statement released by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP. Bright Edafe, vehicles without visible registration marks present a serious security risk, as they are easily exploited by criminals seeking to evade detection.

“All vehicle owners and operators are advised to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered and that their registration number plates remain clearly visible at all times,” the statement read. Motorists have also been urged to remove any device, sticker, frame, cover, or material that obstructs the view of their number plates and to regularise the status of any vehicle operating without valid plates.

The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Tactical Commanders, and patrol officers to enforce the directive strictly. Any vehicle found without approved plates or with tampered registration details will be stopped, impounded, and subjected to appropriate legal processes.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations has been tasked with overseeing the exercise to ensure professionalism and uniformity across the state.

The Delta State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, adding that it would continue to implement proactive measures to maintain law and order for all residents.
