THE Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Adesola Lawal, has declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke‘s political influence will endure well beyond his eight-year tenure, as he called on the people of the ancient town to deliver a landslide victory in the upcoming August 15 election.
The monarch made the pronouncement on Tuesday while addressing residents during the commissioning of the newly constructed 9km dual-carriage Akoda-Baptist High School-Oke Gada road in Ede.
Oba Lawal urged the people of Ede to vote en masse for Governor Adeleke, insisting that the town must secure a margin of victory substantial enough to offset any electoral shortfalls from other local government areas across Osun State.
“My people of Ede, this August 15 election, we must vote massively,” the monarch declared. “We will use Ede’s vote to pay the deficit from other local government areas of Osun State. We are going to fill ballot boxes to the brim. God has strategically positioned us on top of the ballot.”
Addressing the governor directly, Oba Lawal added: “By the Grace of God, your eight years as the governor of the state will complete, and you will also have influence in the emergence of whoever succeeds you.”
The royal father’s comments come as the state gears up for the gubernatorial election, with Adeleke seeking a second term in office.
Road Project to Boost Economy and Security
Governor Adeleke, speaking at the commissioning ceremony, stressed that the newly completed road would not only ease movement within the town but also stimulate business activity across Ede.
“With this dualised road, movement within Ede will be faster and safer; business along Akoda, Cottage, Oke Gada will grow; students and workers will get to school and work on time; nightlife and security will improve with solar lighting,” the governor said.
He emphasised that the project was part of his administration’s broader agenda of infrastructure renewal across all zones of Osun State.
“What we are doing in Osogbo, we are doing in Ila, in Iwo, Ile Ife, Ilesha and now in Ede,” Adeleke stated. “It is noteworthy to inform the gathering today that our engineers have delivered quality work in line with the best standard. I commend the Ministry of Works and the contractor for a job well done.”
The governor officially commissioned the road for public use, thanking the people for their continued support.
Project Specifications
Earlier, the Director of Highways, Engr. Moruf Ojebode, provided technical details of the project, revealing that the dual carriageway measures 9.3 metres on both sides, with a 1.5-metre walkway on either side and a 1.2-metre centre median housing solar-powered street lights for proper illumination.
The commissioning ceremony drew a large crowd of residents who turned out to witness the unveiling of the infrastructure project, which is expected to significantly improve connectivity in the historic town.
