OPERATIONS have resumed at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos following a fire scare that prompted an emergency response from aviation authorities on Sunday.
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) confirmed the outbreak earlier in the day, stating that its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service (ARFFS) was immediately deployed to the scene to respond to the incident and prevent it from escalating.
Emergency personnel were mobilised to ensure the safety of passengers and airport facilities within the terminal area, according to the authority.
In a reassuring statement, FAAN confirmed that no casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident.
“The FAAN Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service is currently responding to the incident and working diligently to contain the situation,” the agency said in its initial statement.
Normal Operations Restored
In a subsequent update, FAAN announced that activities at the terminal had returned to normal.
“Normal operations have resumed at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, following the earlier incident. Passengers are being processed, and flight activities are continuing as scheduled,” the authority stated.
The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, with FAAN indicating that further details would be provided as more information becomes available.
The Murtala Muhammed International Airport remains Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub, handling thousands of domestic and international passengers daily.
