THE Bayelsa State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty of CP Ajao Saka Adewale, psc, mnips, as the 39th Commissioner of Police in the state.
A statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, confirmed that Adewale formally assumed office on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, following his posting to the state by Nigeria Police Force authorities.
He takes over from AIG Iyamah Daniel Edebor, psc, IICFIP, FOOSI, who was recently elevated to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.
The new Commissioner is a seasoned officer with extensive experience in police operations, administration and criminal investigation, having served in various commands, formations and specialised units of the Nigeria Police Force throughout his career.
Prior to his posting to Bayelsa, Adewale served as Commissioner of Police (Administration) at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Gombe State. He also previously served as Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, Abuja.
His career record, according to the command, reflects considerable experience in policing operational management and crime prevention, which the authorities said would be brought to bear in his new assignment in Bayelsa.
The new police helmsman assumes office at a time when effective policing, intelligence-led operations and collaboration between security agencies and residents remain critical to sustaining peace and security in the state.
The command said the new Commissioner would build on existing security measures while strengthening partnerships with relevant stakeholders and members of the public in tackling crime and maintaining law and order.
It therefore appealed to residents, traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to extend their cooperation and support to the new Commissioner as he settles into office.
The command assured the people of Bayelsa that the police would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities professionally and in accordance with the law, while prioritising the protection of lives and property.
It urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information that could assist the police and other security agencies in preventing and combating criminal activities across the state.
The command expressed confidence that with the support and cooperation of the people, CP Adewale would lead the Bayelsa Police Command towards further strengthening security, public safety and peaceful coexistence across the state.
