IN a major push to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit, the Federal Government has officially launched a 241-unit Site and Service Housing Scheme on a 33-hectare plot in Osogbo, Osun State.
The project, a collaboration between the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) and Summit Group Limited, is designed to be a self-sustaining community featuring residential, commercial, and recreational facilities.
Speaking at Thursday’s launch, the Executive Director of the FHA, Nya-Etok Ezekiel, revealed that the development will include residential plots alongside commercial and institutional facilities. Plans feature a police station, recreational and sporting facilities, a hotel, a clinic, a shopping mall, places of worship, and energy and water treatment stations.
Mr Ezekiel highlighted that the initiative reflects the FHA’s renewed commitment to tackling Nigeria’s housing challenges through innovative public-private partnerships. “Government alone cannot bridge this gap,” he stated, explaining that the collaboration with Summit Group Ltd exemplifies a shared-risk, shared-value approach for faster delivery and higher quality outcomes . He noted that the project is driven by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive for the housing sector to be bold, accountable, and results-driven.
The Managing Director of Summit Group Limited, Otunba Olalere Olabode, described the development as more than just an ordinary housing estate, envisioning it as a Federal Government Reserved Area (GRA) given its infrastructure. He affirmed that while the Osogbo project would be developed as a premium estate, his firm supports affordable housing for all Nigerians.
The Executive Director of Project Implementation at the FHA, Oluremi Omowaiye, added that the scheme is part of the authority’s broader housing agenda, with similar projects already underway in about 17 states across the country.
