A seasoned officer with extensive experience in tactical operations and international peacekeeping has assumed command of the Delta State Police Command.
CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, officially took over the reins as the 25th Commissioner of Police for Delta State on Monday, succeeding CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, in a formal handover ceremony.
A Career Defined by Operational Excellence
Born on 2nd March 1968 at Pedro Police Barracks, Shomolu, Mainland, Lagos State, the new Commissioner hails from Owan East Local Government Area of Edo State. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) degree in Political Science from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, which he obtained in 1992.
CP Erale was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a member of Course 18 Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, marking the beginning of a distinguished career that has spanned over three decades and taken him across numerous commands and formations.
International Peacekeeping Experience
His professional journey has included service beyond Nigeria’s borders. In the year 2000, CP Erale served as part of the Nigeria Police Force contingent on a United Nations Mission in Kosovo, an experience that significantly broadened his exposure to international policing standards and peace-support operations.
Fourteen Years in the Police Mobile Force
A significant portion of his career—fourteen years—was spent in the Police Mobile Force (PMF), where he served as Squadron Commander for nine years. This extensive tactical experience has made him a tested operational commander, known for his professionalism, discipline, and commitment to public safety.

· Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Bayelsa State Command
· Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Ekiti State Command
· Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration, Rivers State Command (2022-2026)
· Deputy Commissioner of Police, Community Safety and Crime Prevention, Force Headquarters, Abuja
Successful Election Duty
Most recently, CP Erale was deployed as the CP Elections for the off-cycle elections in Osun State, which was widely regarded as one of the most peaceful and successful elections in recent times. It was while carrying out this national assignment that he received his posting as the 25th Commissioner of Police for Delta State.

He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and the National Institute of Police Studies (MNIPS, 2001).
Personal Life
Beyond his professional commitments, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale is happily married and blessed with children. In his leisure time, he enjoys playing badminton and brisk walking.

The Delta State Police Command, through its Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, confirmed the assumption of duty in an official press release dated 31st August 2026.
The Command expressed confidence that CP Erale’s wealth of experience—spanning operations, administration, criminal investigation, personnel management, community safety, and international policing—will bring renewed vigour to crime-fighting efforts in Delta State.
