THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have unveiled a new digital verification system that allows admission seekers to authenticate their WASSCE results online without visiting any CBT centre or school office.
In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, the examination bodies announced that candidates seeking admission into Nigerian universities, polytechnics and colleges under JAMB will now verify their WAEC O’Level results only once through the JAMB verification platform.
Once verification is completed, JAMB will transmit the authenticated result directly to the candidate’s chosen institution for admission processing.
Candidates are required to pay a one-time verification fee of ₦4,000 through the JAMB portal. The fee is payable only once and not to individual institutions.
Under the new arrangement, tertiary institutions are expected to rely on the JAMB-verified results for screening and admission, eliminating the need for candidates to pay for repeated verification.
WAEC has also authorised JAMB to share verified results directly with admission institutions, ensuring candidates complete the process just once without undergoing multiple checks.
According to the two bodies, the initiative is designed to ease the admission process by reducing stress, cutting travel expenses and eliminating repeated visits to verification centres, while allowing candidates to complete the exercise from any location with internet access.
“Candidates should take advantage of this new arrangement and verify once. The result will be used by the school they choose,” the statement said.
JAMB and WAEC added that the collaboration is aimed at safeguarding candidates’ academic records, lowering verification costs and simplifying the admission process without compromising established standards.
The development is expected to bring significant relief to millions of candidates who previously had to navigate cumbersome verification procedures across multiple institutions, often at considerable financial and logistical cost.
