THE Management of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has confirmed the safe release of the two female students who were abducted during a security incident on campus on Sunday, 6 September 2026.
According to official information from the University, spokesperson Mr Orakwe Ezugwu said in Owerri, the Imo State capital, on Friday evening that the students are currently receiving medical care and psychological support at the University Medical Centre.

The information further stated that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. I.N.S. Dozie, has visited the students and interacted with them.
“The University Management has commended the Nigerian Police and other security agencies for their prompt intervention,” it said, adding that the management assures students, staff, parents and the University community that additional security measures are being sustained in collaboration with relevant security agencies.
Members of the University community are urged to remain calm and vigilant, and to report any suspicious activity.
