NNPC Retail to Roll Out Smart Self-Service Stations Nationwide

NNPC Retail Limited has pledged to roll out its Smart Self-Service Station model across Nigeria as it steps up efforts to modernise fuel retailing through technology-driven, customer-focused services.

The commitment was announced at the inauguration of the company’s first Smart Self-Service Station on Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja, where the Executive Vice President, Downstream, Mumuni Dagazau, described the project as a major step in the transformation of NNPC Retail.

Dagazau said the facility demonstrates the company’s resolve to promote innovation, improve operational efficiency, deliver greater convenience and provide customers with an enhanced fuelling experience.

He also praised the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for its continued collaboration, describing the partnership as a model for delivering modern energy infrastructure across the country.

The station, developed by NNPC Retail Limited, a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), in partnership with the NIS, combines fuel sales, electric vehicle charging and other mobility and lifestyle services at a single location. The Immigration Service provided the land for the project.

The 24-hour facility allows motorists to fuel their vehicles without assistance, choose the exact quantity of fuel required and complete payments at any time of the day.

Managing Director of NNPC Retail, Huub Stokman, said the project was designed to meet the evolving expectations of consumers in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

According to him, customers now demand quality products at competitive prices, faster and friendlier service, flexible payment methods, additional value-added offerings and loyalty rewards. He added that many Nigerians, particularly younger consumers, also expect access to cleaner energy solutions such as electric vehicle charging and compressed natural gas (CNG), all delivered through sustainable systems.

Stokman noted that the Smart Station was created to meet those expectations while providing a modern retail experience.

He also acknowledged the contributions of the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Africa Motor Works, technology partners, contractors and other stakeholders whose support made the project possible.

Reaffirming the company’s long-term vision, Stokman said NNPC Retail would continue expanding the Smart Station concept nationwide, deepen collaboration with public and private sector partners and build a technology-enabled retail network focused on customer satisfaction.

Representing the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nandap, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Finance and Accounts, Saidu Bashir Daura, congratulated NNPC on the milestone.

He described the station as a model that would encourage increased investment in sustainable energy infrastructure and innovative transportation solutions.

A press statement issued by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer, NNPC Limited, said the new station is equipped with 16 Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) pumps and two Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) pumps, backed by storage capacity of 180,000 litres of PMS and 5,000 litres of AGO.

It also features an 86-point electric vehicle charging facility installed in partnership with Africa Motor Works, an LPG dispensing point, a modern lubricant service bay and a fully automated car wash. Space has also been reserved for the future installation of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) infrastructure.

Powered entirely by more than 200 kilowatt-hours of installed solar capacity, the facility includes space for quick-service restaurants, a coffee shop and a convenience store, positioning it as a comprehensive mobility and lifestyle hub rather than a conventional filling station.
