THE Delta State Police Command has taken the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three other persons into custody as part of its ongoing investigation into the death of Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda, a Deputy Director in the Delta State Ministry of Secondary Education.
The Police said the latest arrests bring to five the number of persons currently in custody in connection with the investigation.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 28, 2026, the Command said it had also intensified its search for two persons it described as “key suspects” whose presence was required to advance the investigation.
They are Mrs Clemetine Ufuoma, Director of Basic and Secondary Education, and Clement Apia, the driver to the Commissioner for Secondary Education.
The Command urged the two individuals, wherever they might be, to make themselves available to the Police without further delay.
The development followed the death of Adeda, whose circumstances have prompted a Police investigation and attracted public attention in Delta State.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, had directed that the investigation be pursued thoroughly, impartially and professionally.
According to the statement, the Police leadership also assured the family of the deceased and members of the public that due process would be followed throughout the investigation.
The Command said anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The Police did not disclose the identities of the other three persons taken into custody alongside the Commissioner for Secondary Education, nor did the statement provide details of the specific allegations against each of those in custody.
The Command also expressed its condolences to the family of the deceased.
The investigation remains ongoing as the Police intensify efforts to locate the two persons being sought in connection with the case.
