THE management of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has mourned the passing of a pioneering administrator and former Director-General, Colonel Peter Kolawole Obasa, who died on Monday.
The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, described the late former Director-General, Colonel Peter Kolawole Obasa, as a pioneer manager and founding father who built the scheme’s enduring administrative framework.
Nafiu gave the tribute on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the deceased’s residence in Ilorin, Kwara State. He noted that the solid foundations laid by the late chief executive have successfully sustained the agency over its decades of operation.
“Colonel Obasa’s tenure as the third Chief Executive of the NYSC, from 1979 to 1984, recorded tremendous achievements,” the DG said.
The NYSC boss commended the late Colonel Obasa’s dedication to the scheme’s development and offered prayers for his eternal repose.
He stated that Colonel Obasa’s death was not only a loss to his immediate family but also to the NYSC, whose members would continue to cherish his enduring contributions and memories.

The DG assured the family that the NYSC would continue to build on the solid foundation laid by its founding fathers and strive to make the scheme stronger.
“I convey the condolences of the entire NYSC family to the Obasa family,” the NYSC boss said.
Responding on behalf of the family, Mr Victor Obasa appreciated General Nafiu for the condolence visit, describing the death of his father as shocking.
