AAU Lecturer Passes in Hotel After Encounter With Sex Worker

A senior lecturer at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Dr Matthew Uwuigbe, has died after reportedly collapsing in a hotel room following an encounter with a 21-year-old commercial sex worker in Edo State.

The incident occurred on Sunday at a hotel in the Mosco area of Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, Dr Uwuigbe had checked into the hotel with the woman, identified as Angela Defa Jacob.

He reportedly sent her out to buy water, but she returned to find him lying lifeless in the room.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday, saying three persons had been arrested in connection with the death.

The command’s spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem, said the hotel owner, the manager and the woman were taken into custody as investigations continued.

She added that the lecturer’s remains had been deposited at the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary for further examination.

Confirming Dr Uwuigbe’s employment, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, said the incident occurred outside the institution and involved the lecturer in his private capacity.

He also clarified that the woman involved was not a student of the university.

Police authorities are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the lecturer’s death as investigations continue.
