INEC Omits Adebutu, Running Mate from Final Ogun Governorship Candidate List

INEC Finalises 2027 Election Timetable, Awaits Parliament's Move On Key Law

THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published its final list of candidates for the 2027 Ogun State governorship election, with the names of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Ladi Adebutu, and his running mate, Alhaja Yemi Sowunmi-Kolapo, notably absent.

The electoral body released the official document listing candidates of the various political parties in the state on Saturday.

Thirteen political parties have their governorship and deputy governorship candidates listed in the document, with the PDP being the sole exception.

The commission did not provide a specific reason for the omission of the PDP candidates’ names.

Unless the development is reversed, the PDP will have neither a governorship candidate nor a deputy on INEC’s final list for Ogun State — a situation that would effectively rule the party out of the governorship contest.

When contacted, the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Architect Kayode Adebayo, said the party was yet to confirm the report.

“We are yet to confirm the report. We cannot say anything for now,” he said.

The development comes amid heightened scrutiny of candidate lists ahead of the 2027 general election, following a recent Supreme Court verdict warning that candidates not properly contained in party registers risk disqualification.
