THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has reaffirmed its support for the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following his declaration of support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The party also announced plans to endorse Mr Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate in Bayelsa State, a move it said was in line with Mr Wike’s political position and the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Bayelsa PDP disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by its state publicity secretary, Hon. Ikaebimo Mark.

According to the statement, the party views Mr Wike’s position, recently reiterated at the inauguration of the APC presidential campaign council, as a significant political declaration that reinforces the direction of his political engagement ahead of the next general elections.

The statement said the Bayelsa PDP, under the leadership of its state chairman, Hon. Chief Alabh George Turnah, would work towards endorsing Mr Tinubu as its preferred presidential candidate in the state.

It added that the proposed endorsement was intended to align the party’s political direction with Mr Wike’s position and mobilise stakeholders and supporters around a common objective ahead of the 2027 elections.

The statement further highlighted Mr Turnah’s leadership of the national rainbow coalition in Bayelsa, describing the coalition as a platform for coordinating political activities and mobilising stakeholders in support of Mr Tinubu’s candidacy.

It said Mr Turnah remained committed to coordinating the coalition’s activities and strengthening its mobilisation efforts ahead of the elections.

The Bayelsa PDP urged its members, stakeholders and supporters to remain calm, united and committed as consultations and preparations for the 2027 general elections intensify.

The party also called on its members to maintain confidence in the leadership and respect decisions reached through the appropriate political processes.
