PRESIDENT Bola Tinubu and the Chairman of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, have mourned former Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, recalling his contributions to the development of the state and efforts to address militancy in the Niger Delta.

Uduaghan passes on Monday, October 19, 2026, aged 71, according to a statement issued by his family.

Tinubu, in a condolence message released by the State House, sympathised with the late governor’s wife, Roli, his children, his cousin and former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, as well as the government and people of Delta State.

The President described Uduaghan as a public servant whose leadership was devoted to the development of Delta State and service to Nigeria.

He recalled that the deceased served as Commissioner for Health and Secretary to the State Government before being elected governor in 2007.

According to Tinubu, Uduaghan’s two-term administration, which ended in 2015, occupied a significant place in the state’s political and developmental history.

He noted that the former governor pursued initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare delivery and the overall welfare of Deltans.

Tinubu added that Uduaghan remained active in the state’s political and socio-economic landscape after leaving office, contributing to democratic governance and public service.

The President urged the people of Delta State to draw strength from the late governor’s years of service and the enduring relationships he built across the country’s political and social spheres.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of Uduaghan’s soul and divine comfort for the bereaved family and all those mourning him.

Similarly, Tompolo expressed sadness over the death of the former governor, recalling his role during the period of militancy in the Niger Delta and his support for the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

In a condolence message signed by his Media Consultant, Dr Paul Bebenimibo, Tompolo said he received the news with sadness, adding that he had not expected the loss at this time.

Tompolo, the Ibe-Ebidouwei of the Ijaw Nation, particularly acknowledged Uduaghan’s support for the Presidential Amnesty Programme and pipeline surveillance arrangements awarded during the administrations of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He said the former governor would be greatly missed and prayed that God would grant the bereaved family and others affected by the loss the strength to bear it.

Uduaghan governed Delta State for two terms between May 2007 and 2015, having previously served in key positions in the state government.

His death has drawn condolences from political leaders and stakeholders, reflecting his years of involvement in public service and the political development of Delta State and the wider Niger Delta region.
