SPANISH police have opened an investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter following the death of CD Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel, who passed away at the age of 30 after a horrific on-field collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono.
The incident occurred during Monday’s Spanish second-division clash when Owono rushed out of his goal to challenge De Miguel for the ball, with the goalkeeper’s knee making contact with the forward.
Owono was immediately shown a red card, while De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest and was rushed to hospital, where he sadly died on Tuesday morning.
The case is now under judicial investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding his death. However, the opening of an investigation does not mean Owono has been formally charged or found guilty of any offence.
Our thoughts remain with De Miguel’s family, teammates and loved ones.
