Diary of a Teacher (DoT) with Titilope Ogundele

Why This Is The Best Time To Acquire A Skill

WHEN I enrolled for training in fashion designing, I was working in a private secondary school. The closing time was 4:00p.m but the proprietress would insist we stay in school till 4:15p.m. Most times, I would go to the shop from work; the school where I was teaching was not really far from the shop where I was enrolled for training.

Many days, I would get to work around 5:00p.m; the major work for the day would have been completed. Few weeks after I enrolled for training, three young girls were also enrolled; they just completed their secondary school education.

These ladies would get to the shop before 9:00a.m and leave around 6:00p.m. Meanwhile, I would get to shop around 5:00p.m and leave at 8:00p.m.

While on this training, I left the private school for another job; I also moved out of that area. At the same time, I registered for a Master’s degree. That means I was working and schooling while I was still training to be a fashion designer.

There were days I would get home around 9:00p.m; yet, I had to leave the house early the following day.

I must speak the truth; I didn’t get the best out of the training; it was not my fault. It was not the fault of my boss; I had a lot on my hands.

What happened to the other ladies? One of them is currently serving as a corps member; one of them was a student at the University of Ibadan (It’s been a while I saw her). I don’t know anything about the third girl. After their training, the young ladies pursued their education to the university level.

Dear young boy and girl, this is the best time to acquire a skill; please do. Be wise!
