OSOGBO — A newly inaugurated flyover in Osun State has developed a significant depression barely a month after Governor Ademola Adeleke officially opened the infrastructure to the public.
The 672-metre flyover at the Lameco area of Osogbo, which cost taxpayers a staggering N8,521,632,257.28, was inaugurated with much fanfare on 1 July.
But in the early hours of Friday, following heavy rainfall in the state capital, a section of the bridge caved in.
The visible sinkhole and cracks on the sunken asphalt surface have sparked alarm among motorists and residents, with many forced to seek alternative routes to avoid the affected stretch.
Witnesses described the scene as deeply concerning, questioning the quality of workmanship on the multi-billion-naira project.
Stonix News gathered that the damaged section—located on one of the bridge’s lanes—showed clear signs of structural distress, with motorists having to slow down considerably to navigate past the depression.
Authorities have since barricaded the flyover, with armed operatives of the Amotekun Corps deployed to man the entrance and prevent access to the bridge.
Residents have called on the state government to urgently address the situation and carry out immediate repairs, with many expressing fears that the structural integrity of the entire flyover could be compromised.
