CHIEF Daniel Osi Orbih, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and close ally of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, has passed away at the age of 64.
The veteran politician reportedly died on Monday, August 31, 2026. His family announced his passing in a statement signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the Orbih family.
The family said it received the news with “profound sadness and a heavy heart,” while expressing total submission to the will of Almighty God.
The statement read: “With profound sadness and a heavy heart but in total submission to the will of the Almighty God, we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother and patriarch, Chief Daniel Osi Orbih.”
Chief Orbih is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih; his children, Ms Winifred Anwosiobor Orbih and Dr Mildred Omonemi Orbih; his brothers and sisters; as well as other members of the extended family.
The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they come to terms with the loss.
“At this difficult time, we ask family members, friends and well-wishers to remember the entire family in their prayers as we mourn this painful loss,” the statement said.
The family added that details of the funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
Orbih was a well-known figure in Edo State politics and a key stakeholder in the PDP. His political career saw him align closely with Nyesom Wike, particularly during the contentious build-up to the 2023 general elections when he served as the National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the PDP.
His death has sent shockwaves through political circles, with many expected to pay tribute to the late chieftain in the coming days.
