Rita Enemuru, Reporting

PANDEMONIUM broke out in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Tuesday following a gruesome incident in which a middle-aged man allegedly dismembered his wife to death before committing suicide by consuming a poisonous substance.

The tragic incident, which has thrown the Owiri Street community into mourning, reportedly occurred after a violent physical confrontation between the couple.

Sources identified the deceased husband simply as Paul Okoh (not his real name), a father of four. It was gathered that the man acted in a fit of rage over allegations that his wife was involved in extramarital affairs and had fraudulently diverted his landed property documents into her name before selling them to prospective buyers in Agbarho.

A neighbour, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Stonix News that the couple had been living apart due to incessant domestic violence. The source expressed shock that their latest altercation had ended so tragically.

“The couple had separated over a series of physical confrontations. We never knew the last fight would claim both of their lives,” the neighbour said.

The elder brother of the deceased, a tall, lanky man with a beard who declined to disclose his name or that of the victims, confirmed the incident to our correspondent. He said he was unaware of the immediate cause of the fight but acknowledged that family disputes could sometimes escalate.

“As a family, there are different situations that can arise and lead to confrontation. I don’t know much about what happened,” he said. He disclosed that his late brother left behind four children, the eldest being a 21-year-old son.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Bright Edafe, has yet to confirm the incident.

Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased have been evaluated to the morgue for further investigation.
