THE death of former Delta State Commissioner and three-time Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Chief Dr Joseph Sisanmi Otumara, has continued to attract an outpouring of tributes from residents, political associates and other netizens, who described him as a selfless leader whose contributions to public service and community development would not be forgotten.
Chief Otumara, who died on Friday, 12 June, 2026, served as Commissioner for Health, Commissioner for Housing and Commissioner for Special Duties in Delta State.
He was also the Obarisuwa of Warri Kingdom and played prominent roles in the political development of the state.
Reacting to the news of his death, Aghara John described the late politician as an honourable figure in Warri’s political history, expressing condolences to his family and praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.
Ibrahim Owoade said Otumara distinguished himself through his ability to work harmoniously with the three major ethnic groups in Warri South without discrimination.
He described the deceased as a diplomat and prayed for God to grant him eternal rest.
Francisca Uwhele, who identified herself as a relative of the deceased through marriage, expressed sadness over the loss.
She prayed that God’s light would shine upon his soul and urged the Almighty to comfort the family he left behind.
Similarly, Gladys Eyikimiaghan described Otumara’s passing as a huge loss, extending her condolences to the family while praying for his peaceful repose.
Solomon Ala also paid tribute to the former commissioner, describing him as a great leader.
Reflecting on the inevitability of death, he noted that every human being would eventually face the end of life and urged people to consider their spiritual choices.
One Igherighe Onoriode recalled the deceased’s contributions to community development, particularly in providing water projects to several communities in Warri South.
He prayed that God would grant him mercy and eternal rest.
Another netizen, Freeborn Rume, said Otumara would be remembered for his positive impact on society, describing him as a good man whose absence would be deeply felt by many.
Meanwhile, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commiserated with the family of the late statesman, describing his death as a painful loss to Delta State, the Itsekiri nation and the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said he received news of Otumara’s death with deep sadness, noting that the state had lost one of its most experienced and influential leaders.
According to the governor, the late Otumara’s distinguished career in public service, healthcare administration and politics reflected his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people and the development of Delta State.
“On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the passing of Dr Joseph Sisanmi Otumara, a distinguished statesman, seasoned administrator and former Commissioner for Health whose service to Delta State was exemplary,” the governor said.
He added: “Dr Otumara dedicated his life to the service of humanity, first as a medical doctor and later as a public servant who occupied several important positions with diligence, integrity and exceptional competence.”
The governor further extended his condolences to the Otumara family, the people of Warri Kingdom and the APC, praying for the peaceful repose of the deceased and for strength for those mourning his passing.
