THE Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued 11 farm workers who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in Ogbido Community, Iyahmo, located in Etsako East Local Government Area.
The victims, comprising nine males and two females, were freed during a coordinated operation on Saturday involving police officers from the Iyahmo Division, local vigilantes, and hunters.
According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikioedem, the rescue mission was launched following a distress call received on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
The rescue team immediately mounted a search operation in the surrounding forest where the victims were believed to have been taken. Upon encountering the kidnappers, officers engaged in a fierce gun duel with the suspects.
“Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and tactical response of the operatives, the kidnappers abandoned their captives and fled into the forest,” the statement read.
All victims were rescued unharmed and taken to a hospital for medical examination before being reunited with their families.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, praised the gallantry and resilience of the police operatives, local vigilantes, and hunters whose prompt response led to the successful rescue operation.
The Commissioner assured residents that the Command has intensified security operations across the area and remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property.
He also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to aid the fight against crime in the state.
Meanwhile, the Command confirmed that efforts are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
